Planting of our “food forest”

In early December 2023, we started planting our own food forest at our site in Grembergen (Dendermonde). Our colleagues worked to plant various young fruit trees, including cherry, pear, apple, mirabel and many more. Currently, the first steps have been taken, but further planting of the food forest with various fruit bushes, herbs and more is still planned.

The trees that were already on the site (o.a. black alder) have of course been retained. They remove nitrogen from the air and make it available to the other plants in the food forest through their roots.

Our aim is to create a place where trees and shrubs work together to not only produce delicious fruit, but also to promote an ecological balance. We look forward to tasting the first fruits within a few years.
