A UN quality mark is an internationally recognised label indicating that packaging is suitable for the safe transport of hazardous substances. These labels are established by the United Nations and apply to a variety of packaging, such as metal and plastic drums, plastic jerrycans and IBCs. The label consists of a series of codes that provide information on the type of packaging, the material, the packaging group (X, Y or Z), and the testing standards the packaging complies with. This determines which hazard classes and substances the packaging is safe to use for, for example, flammable, toxic or corrosive materials.
For example, a code like UN/1A2/X220/S may indicate a metal drum with removable lid, suitable for substances in packaging groups I, II and III, and tested for solids with a maximum weight of 220 kg. The packaging groups are based on the hazard risk of the substance: group I for highly hazardous, group II for hazardous and group III for less hazardous substances.
To obtain the UN mark, packaging is subjected to stringent tests. These tests include drop tests, where packaging is exposed to specific drop heights. In addition, hydraulic proof tests can also be carried out to determine whether a packaging can withstand the internal pressure that can build up during transport.
When choosing the right packaging, you should consider these labels to ensure that their dangerous goods comply with all laws and regulations during t
Since we have no information either on the composition of the product to be filled by your company or the circumstances under which this will take place, or on the method of transport of the filled packaging and their accessories, we are not in a position to give any definite opinion regarding the compatibility with the materials used. At all times, the customer remains responsible for any damage or defects. We therefore recommend that, in your own interest, product compatibility tests as well as stability tests be carried out.
